Only the name is wrong
A wrong name is one of the most common mistakes in a document, and one of the most costly: a swapped letter on a certificate, an old surname on a letter, an initial that never made it into a form. The document itself is fine. Asking for it to be re-issued costs days, and sometimes it is simply not on offer.
Names are also where a rebuilt page is most obvious. A name usually sits in a heading or on a line of its own, often in a different weight from the body text, and a substituted font makes the change obvious next to the body text.
The one thing to check first
Headings are where an edit is most often refused, and it is worth knowing why. A PDF embeds only the characters a document actually uses, and a heading font may contain no more than the thirty or forty it has ever needed. If the corrected spelling needs a letter that heading never contained, that letter does not exist in the file, and putting a similar-looking one in its place would be a different letterform on the page.
So it says which characters are missing and shows you what that font can write. The check costs nothing, so you find this out before you have spent anything — and often the name is in the body font, which usually carries a full alphabet.
The steps
Upload the document
You will see which fonts are in the file and whether they can write the new name.
Type the name as it is printed
Exactly — including the capitals, and the middle initial if there is one.
Type the correct name
If a letter is unavailable in that font you are told which one, and it stops there rather than substituting.
Check, then look at the page
Both are free. Download the PDF once the result is what you wanted.
